Water Sustainability is enshrined in the Qld Water Act but not enforced

You may not know that any Commercial Water Extraction bore is required by law to have a meter attached but few install one. Hence the uncertainty of exactly how much is extracted is used by both sides to justify their activities or points of view. You might ask why don't they just enforce the existing law....COST. Department budgets are already under stress but can be minimised through innovative approaches and existing cost effective technologies already in use. I have seen how engaging the community to assist with gathering research data or working on projects has been highly effective and is also being used by other governments in compliance monitoring. Smart Meters have been adopted by many companies to minimise on site visits or automate actions when critical levels are reached. However, we need to push governments into action because water is a finite but critical resource that needs to be effectively managed if we are to all move forward in a manageable manner. The old adage " that you cant manage what you don't measure" is apt. Please share this petition with your friends if you haven't already done so.
