Animal Abuse Registry

Animal Abuse Registry
The issue
I am proposing an animal abuse registry for domestic pets, as the current Queensland legislation is not sufficient. The aim of this petition is to stop people who abuse pets from gaining ownership of pets that they can continue to abuse and harm. This can be achieved by creating a known database that is accessible by police, managers of adoption shelters, rescue operators, registered breeders and senior Veterinary staff, who can access the database when people are purchasing pets or there is a suspected incident of neglect or abuse. The database/registry would have a list of names, addresses and information about the neglect/abuse that has occurred to the pets. If a name is searched and appears on the animal abuser’s registry, this person can be denied purchasing of the pet. This is not a proposal for a vigilante Web page, but rather a proposal for a database that charged or convicted animal abusers are listed on, so they have reduced opportunities of owning pets again and harming these defenceless creatures. By implementing a legislation like such it can drastically reduce the suspected animal abuse cases/complaints of over 18 thousand in 2014-2015 in Queensland alone, and increase rate of conviction, as only 170 of the suspected 18,499 animal abuse cases were convicted for their crimes, some of which only receiving a 3 year ban on pet ownership. So please, HELP US STOP ANIMAL CRUELTY, BY STOPPING THEIR OFFENDERS FROM HARMING THEM, by signing this petition.
