Queensland Stop Black Deaths in Custody
The Issue
We the undersigned citizens, in support of the Queensland Stop Black Deaths In Custody Committee and Black Lives Matter Brisbane are calling on the Queensland Attorney General, the Queensland Human Rights Commissioner and the Department of Premier and Cabinet to;
1. Conduct a broad review into all Aboriginal Death in Custody cases since the RCIADIC;
2. An end to racial profiling and excessive and unnecessary force used by Queensland Police against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders;
3. Immediate ban on the use of chock holds and knees by Queensland police.
4. The establishment of a black deaths in custody committee to provide oversight into black deaths in custody investigations;
5. The removal of conflicts of interest and bias in black deaths in custody investigations and for Queensland Police to no longer take a lead role in the investigations of these deaths.
