Review the funding allocations to regional hospitals in Queensland
Review the funding allocations to regional hospitals in Queensland
The issue
In light of recent reports of doctors, nurses and midwives working under immense pressure in regional public hospitals, changes need to be made as to how funding is allocated to our hospitals.
Mothers are being left to birth without support, midwives and nurses are being pushed to their limits with regards to hours worked, patient ratios and much more and doctors are left with no choice but to give women birth kits in case they are birthing alone in rural areas.
Regional Queenslanders desperately need to see changes made to how their public hospitals are funded. If changes are made to funding, more staff can be recruited, extra training provided to upskill nursing staff to provide additional care such as neonatal ICU services and locals can be treated closer to family. Without changes, countless patients, including babies only hours old are transported to RBWH at great cost.
