FOLKS - tonight I write about an issue that is both important and disgusting.

The thing is, regardless of the side of the fence you sit on around women's or men's rights, the culture with in the Queensland Police 'Service' has been problematic for some time.

Today, we are confronted with a story about how the Qld Premier sidesteps comments made by a Police Union so-called representative stating that a report about the domestic violence situation in Queensland being significantly contributed to by a culture with in Queensland Police.

Recently, we saw a story by DV Advocates that say their nightmare situation is when a police officer commits domestic violence. They say the rate of domestic violence among police offers is almost double that of mainstream community! Yep, almost DOUBLE!

So, what does that say about the culture of police responding to victims of domestic violence. There appears to be an unwillingness by politicians, afraid to criticise the police union for making inappropriate comments - and THERE IN LIES THE PROBLEM!

A general unwillingness to weed out the bad cops, get rid of people who give cops a bad name, and let the situation fester.

Our proposal to usher in a time for real accountability and transparency by having the police overseen by a CIVILIAN OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE would end this inaction. A Civilian Oversight Committee with real power to refer bad police for prosecution or recommend termination - or indeed to be able to make public reports on police behaviour in a truly accountable manner would end this non-sense.
