FOLKS - the attached story really does highlight how broken the police complaint system is. I know it's an old story, but it is still highly relevant today.
I hear stories every day from people approaching me to let me know about their interaction with police. Unfortunately, nearly all of them are afraid to openly share their story because they fear retribution by police!
A police officer was found guilty of assault, BUT just what happened to this police officer after this case? Just what justifies the support of the police union in appealing the decision by the Court?
What is absolutely astonishing with this case is the fact that the Police Integrity Command found NO REASON TO INVESTIGATE THE CASE.
In this case, the victim - essentially an old man, had to find his own evidence - CCTV footage clearly showing what really happened, AND HE HAD TO PROSECUTE THE POLICE OFFICER HIMSELF!
The system is truly broken when you have a situation like this. NOT ONLY was the police officer found guilty of assault, but in my opinion the other officers who backed up his story should have been charged with attempt to pervert the course of justice, and CORRUPTION!
It has been a well known fact in Queensland, police lie to back each other up. Police who lie do NOT DESERVE TO BE POLICE OFFICERS!
Just what this case illustrates is not only how broken the police complaint system is, it highlights an entrenched corrupt system of police who cover up wrongdoing, lie in courts against innocent citizens, and fail to have any integrity what so ever.
The ONLY way to reform is a completely independent system of civilian oversight. The CCC do not appear to do their job. How can you have a completely independent system that also investigates citizens with a major crime fighting component and staffed by either ex police officers or seconded police officers. JUST HOW INDEPENDENT IS THIS?
