WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS WHEN POLICE LIE AS AN INSTITUTION?

THE CREATION OF 'MORAL PANIC' IN THE POPULATION AND HOW POLICE/POLITICIANS EXPLOIT IT.
Folks, this is a subject that is rarely discussed. Police are well known for 'fudging' statistics and being very selective for their media releases.
The sole aim of these media releases is to create fear in the community at large, often arguing for greater powers and funding/numbers.
Yet, if one examines crime statistics over time, the proportion of violent crime has not actually increased as a percentage. It increases in numbers due to a larger population.
The Governments in power often respond by increasing penalties for certain crimes, and do various media releases designed to obtain more votes.
One has to ask a simple question however in this mix. Why then do Politicians allow police officers to get away with crimes despite a demonstrated problem in that area? A perfect example is the high number of breaches of privacy by police officers, where 90% get away with no prosecution and a slap on the wrist!
A very disturbing trend lately in the media is the 'applauding' of police who met out their own punishment on alleged criminals. We've all seen this. This type of behaviour is being legitimized by the media, who I believe have a 'relationship' with police to obtain sensational news.
We don't buy it. The role of a police officer is to detect crime, arrest alleged offenders and bring them before the courts. NOT meting out their own form of punishment by brutalizing them.

FOLKS, help us to help you. The installation of a Civilian Oversight Committee for police complaints and deaths in custody is a win win situation. Police should have NOTHING to fear if what they are doing is all above board. Today, I received information on how the Police Integrity Command manipulate reports. I actually saw one myself that was manipulated in such a manner as to avoid scrutiny.
