WHAT A STATE OF AFFAIRS WHEN A CIVILIAN HAS TO PROSECUTE POLICE IN QUEENSLAND!

Folks, this story from a few years ago exemplifies the reason why we desperately NEED civilian oversight into Police Complaints.

Mr Bruce Rowe was arrested by police in Queensland, and prosecuted for assault police and resist arrest - but there was one major flaw in this story! Mr Rowe was actually THE VICTIM OF A CRIMINAL ASSAULT BY POLICE ON HIM.

When he complained to police - his complaint was dismissed as being without merit. Yep that's right!

The story does not end there. Obtaining CCTV footage that backed up his claims, he took the police officer who assaulted HIM to court, and won his case, with the police officer being convicted. Mr Rowe had the guts to stand up to police who did the wrong thing!

BUT WHAT IS DISTURBING HERE IS THAT NO POLICE OFFICER WAS THEN CHARGED WITH PERVERTING THE COURSE OF JUSTICE - BECAUSE THEY ALL CONSPIRED TO DEFEAT JUSTICE IN FABRICATING THEIR STORIES IN CHARGING AND CONVICTING MR. ROWE!

FOLKS this is the type of thing that happens regularly, Mr Rowe was just lucky in that he had clear evidence in his favour. And think that the CCC can help you? They just pass it back to the police to investigate themselves - with the same result time in and time out.
