During his first year in office, Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner has aggressively pursued what he calls a progressive “movement” to change the city’s criminal justice system, despite often being at odds with some of his own prosecutors and police force. And within a period of only ten years, Philly voters went from supporting Lynne Abraham, once dubbed “the Deadliest DA” in America because of her law-and-order stance, to Krasner, a former civil rights attorney. On this episode of The Why, Keystone Crossroads reporter Bobby Allyn explains the forces behind that shift, and why Krasner has become a model for other progressive district attorneys across the country.
