Anthony Abicca, a student at Queens College, was filmed in two viral videos on June 1, 2020. In the first video, he was featured saying racial and homophobic slurs addressed to black people and LGBTQ+ individuals. In the second video, he was caught tearing down a Black Lives Matter sign, which was created to spread awareness and to support the movement in getting justice for the vicious murder of George Floyd, and other innocent black men and women targeted by the police and vigilantes.

Many Queens College students find the actions of Anthony Abicca and his use of racial & homophobic slurs very worrisome, as Queens College is a diverse campus with students of different race, ethnicity, and sexual orientation. Furthermore, his acts of discrimination is not in line with the school's policy on conduct. 

When Queens College became aware of this incident, on June 3rd they put out the following statement on social media:

"Thank you to all expressing concern about social media postings of videos of racist remarks by an individual identified as a Queens College student. The racism and bigotry expressed does not in any way represent Queens College; we condemn racism and bigotry of any kind. We reaffirm our enduring commitment to diversity and respect so that all members of our community may pursue their goals in a safe and supportive environment. I love my school, and my fellow QC peers and I feel more could be done to address this issue.

Queens College students demand that two actions are taken against Anthony Abicca:

1. Anthony Abicca is to be expelled from Queens College.

2. We would recommend that Anthony Abicca, in addition to being expelled, be made to undergo an anti-bias training to ensure the discontinuation of his hateful manners.
