Save the childhood home of children's author Crocket Johnson

Save the childhood home of children's author Crocket Johnson
The Issue
Crockett Johnson was a New York cartoonist and children’s book creator who grew up in Corona, Queens. He is best remembered for his classic 1950s books about Harold and the Purple Crayon. The simple stories follow a small pug-nosed boy in a romper suit. Harold brings to life his adventures with his simple line drawings from his ever-present purple crayon. All of Harold's adventures begin and end at 104-11 39th Avenue in Corona, Queens, the house that Crockett Johnson grew up in. The house is real and still there. Please help us save it - The Queens Library owns it and wants to tear it down! This home can be saved - The Corona-East Elmhurst Historic Preservation Society is fighting to save "Harold's House". Saving this house will preserve part of Corona's history and can bring economic/tourism benefits to the community. It is also a part of the Borough of Queens and the City of New York's rich cultural and artistic history. Corona was also the home of Louis Armstrong who lived only a few blocks away.
