For 64 years, Queens Ball has been a cornerstone of Queensland’s LGBTQIA+ community, celebrating our achievements and contributions. However, we believe that the nomination and awarding process managed by Brisbane Pride warrants a review to uphold fairness, transparency, and community representation.  

We, the Queensland LGBTQIA+ community, call for the establishment of an independent panel of local community members with expertise in administration and local knowledge. This panel would ensure nominees are correctly categorised and vetted, and that Brisbane Pride’s nomination guidelines are consistently enforced and effectively managed.  

This petition is not a criticism of Brisbane Pride’s management of Queens Ball, but rather a sincere effort to safeguard the integrity of the longest-running queer awards in the world. We believe a dedicated subcommittee—comprising experienced community members from diverse backgrounds, including the arts—would be best placed to facilitate this process.  

Together, we can ensure Queens Ball continues to reflect the voices, contributions, and excellence of our community.
