First and foremost, I would like to thank everyone who took the time to read, sign and share this petition. United we can help make positive change and that is exactly what we have achieved here. Yesterday we received the wonderful news that Qatar Airways will be changing its ‘Excess Baggage for Animals (Pet) as Checked Baggage’ policy, effective 5 November. The following weights and rates are according to the official memo received. SMALL Total weight: Up to 23kg $500 MEDIUM Total weight: Up to 32kg $650 LARGE Total weight: Up to 75kg $800 There is a significant increase in cost for both small and medium sized animals, and compared to competitive airlines that previously flew from Hamad International Airport, Qatar airways is double the cost for ‘large’ pets. This is a positive step as we now have an option for our bigger dogs with an airline that we wholeheartedly trust with our most vulnerable loved ones. However, I urge all families, pet owners and animal lovers always plan ahead and to consider the needs of their families and rescue groups around Qatar as the rise in prices will make it harder to raise funds allowing fewer to travel each time. The Qatar Airways website should soon, hopefully post the changes to their policy. And I will keep you posted on all new information we receive on the matter.
