The removal of our SRO’s had no just basis and was fueled by the negative image surrounding police during these times. SRO’s are for the benefit and safety of students. And for parents, why wouldn’t you want the safest environment for your children in our school system?  These SRO officers are specially trained in handling youth, especially those who have experienced trauma. This is our opportunity as a community and school district to work together with Watsonville Police Department to create a safe environment for our students.

There have been too many fights around school campuses in the first 2 weeks of school for anyone to feel safe.  A 17-year-old student was stabbed and killed while attending school by two other students. A 13-year-old student the very next day was arrested for brandishing a weapon on another student while on campus; if there wasn’t staff there to intervene the outcome might have been grave.  We need these officers back in our schools they will help cut down on fights and weapon violence in the schools while making everyone feel much safer.  I only ask that you sign this petition and help push for the PVUSD School Board to reinstate SRO’s for the safety and benefit of our schools and community.
