It's more than a head-scratcher. It's an affront to our flag. By secretly marrying Britain's Princess Beatrice on Friday, Edoardo Mozzi joins the "Canadian royal family". That entitles him to use this personal flag, along with his wife. The problem is, Ottawa says his flag takes precedence ahead of the Canadian flag, which must be surrendered to it.

We doubt Mozzi is even aware that, should he, his wife, or any of her family touch Canadian soil, their mere presence will insult the nation by demoting or removing the Maple Leaf. We wish the couple well, but call on the government to change its rules. No royal or viceregal flags should ever trump the Canadian flag.
