Put barriers up on the Manchester canals

Last March 19 year old Charlie Pope went missing. His body was found the next day by divers searching Rochdale canal. It seems he fell in and died. It shook our community here in Manchester to know that this young man, who had his whole life ahead of him, had lost his life to something that could easily have been prevented if there were barriers in plans.

That’s why I’ve started this campaign calling on the Canal and River Trust and Manchester’s Mayor, to install permanent barriers around Manchester's canals.

It’s been estimated that 100 people a day use the part of the canal near where Charlie was found. You can’t put a price on a life and this small measure could help prevent many more lives being lost.

Charlie’s dad is supporting us with this campaign. Please support us too by signing and sharing. Thank you.
