Put an End to Unregulated Backyard Dog Breeding

The Issue

As a society imbued with a deep love and respect for animals, it is immensely disheartening that our public shelters and rescue groups are flooded daily with dogs suffering from the fallout of unregulated backyard breeding. As someone who sees this heartache online everyday. I implore you to consider the gravity of this situation.

Backyard breeders, motivated primarily by the chase for financial gain, repeatedly breed their dogs, often without adequate care for the offspring. When the puppies fall ill or go unsold, it is our community shelters that bear the brunt, left to care for the dogs, or -- in the worst scenarios -- euthanize them. It is beyond comprehension that this avoidable suffering is permitted to continue unhindered in our society.

Data from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) shows that approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year and 1.5 million of these shelter animals are euthanized. It is clear that dogs are not mere commodities to be exploited for financial gain, but sentient beings deserving of love and care.

For the sake of these innocent puppies and the invaluable work of our sanitation facilities, I urge for the implementation of laws banning unregulated backyard breeding of dogs. The well-being of millions of living, breathing creatures hangs in the balance, and the onus falls on us to advocate for their rights.

Enact laws that regulate dog breeding. For our best friends, for the integrity of our community, and for the sanctity of life. Please, sign this petition today to send a clear message to our lawmakers.
