On April 20,1969, a park was created by utilizing an empty lot and ultimately converting it to a public park by way of activism and residential movements in Berkeley, California.
Ever since the park had been created, Classists then began their own activism to have the park reclassified, restructured and rebuilt into what they think the land should serve for. Ultimately, and unfortunately the park was walled off with shipping containers early January 2024 by funding of UC Berkeley to make way for construction of student housing.
Despite activism over the overwhelming majority of homelessness surrounding the college and within the park itself, this is a prime example of how #Classism inequality is destroying not only the community, but also the possibility of ANY equality in Berkeley.
Therefore, this being said, it is blatantly clear that Berkeley cannot claim itself as being progressive and anti-discriminate until these issues are honestly rectified.
If Classism is a force that can use money to reinforce the law they create, there is no hope for people over power. We must stand together and gather as many signatures as possible to bring concrete change. We must also say that there are many more voices that matter, due to those suffering due to basic human rights being violated.
We must also acknowledge that those who protested before us in order to get where they are in Class, will also protest against our activism, and may see our movements as a threat to their way of life.
This is not to threaten their way of life, it is to seek an equal common ground where everyone can survive side-by-side equally, with acceptances & equal opportunities to reside in the same society without fear of being squeezed out by discrimination & instability in the financial sector due to skyrocketing rents.
This must end!
