Push Oxford to Budget More for Animal Control

The Issue

I've lived in Oxford my whole life, and I've never seen the situation with stray animals as bad as it is now. Every day, my family and I live in fear as stray and feral dogs roam our neighborhoods. I've witnessed dogs fighting to the death, eating each other out of desperation, and getting hit by cars. On more than one occasion, I've been nearly attacked. The lack of animal control is more than an inconvenience; it's a public safety hazard. Yet, city officials continue to ignore the problem, focusing instead on beautifying the city for tourists with new hotels, parks, and shopping centers. Where is the budget for animal control?

Every taxpayer in Oxford deserves to know where their money is going. The city's refusal to adequately fund and manage animal control services implies either incompetence or something more sinister, like misuse of funds. The mayor’s own son has been known to illegally trap and relocate pets, while authorities remain idle about ongoing hoarding and dog fighting issues.

This petition is not just about addressing stray animals; it’s about demanding transparency and real solutions. Oxford needs a dedicated animal shelter, effective animal control officers, and a permanent resolution to stray animal issues. We need accountability for how our funds are used and why they're not being allocated to address this crucial issue.

Join me in calling on Oxford's city officials to prioritize the safety and well-being of its residents by reallocating budget funds. It's time for Oxford to stop turning a blind eye to this crisis. Sign this petition to demand action, accountability, and a safer community for everyone.
