PUSH HENDRY COUNTY FOR A MORATORIUM ON DEVELOPMENTS

Recent signers:
William Watson and 19 others have signed recently.

The Issue

SB180 stops moratoriums on developments because of hurricane affected areas. Good news is, is that it’s been over a year since a hurricane has hit a 100 mile radius in Hendry county. So theoretically the county can put a moratorium on development to catch up on infrastructure, which is a very valid reason.
“For 1 year after a hurricane makes landfall, an impacted local government may not propose or adopt:
(a) A moratorium on construction, reconstruction, or redevelopment of any property.
(b) A more restrictive or burdensome amendment to its comprehensive plan or land development regulations.
(c) A more restrictive or burdensome procedure concerning review, approval, or issuance of a site plan, development permit, or development order, to the extent that those terms are defined in s. 163.3164.”
This is good news!! So EVERYONE email, call and show up to the meetings to pressure the county.

Due to Sunshine Laws a public response can be seen as a Violation. I am Definitely aware and working with Staff to be Prepared at the time it comes before the Commission.
Michael Atkinson
Hendry County Commission - District 5
This property was rezoned in 2020. It was just recently put on the market for sale and I believe it was thought to have been a new development rezone request but it is not. They already have been rezoned and pud approved.
