The Issue

On Twitter/X, I am @DeathNotexFN. In the real world, I am one of multiple fans across the world who loves Death Note as an anime, manga, and franchise.

I started the “Is Death Note in Fortnite?” account because I finished watching Death Note on Netflix shortly beforehand on a boring school morning day in the middle of May. I didn't watch enough anime despite wanting to, so I threw myself into DN, having thought about it for a while. It became a hyper-fixation, but I wanted the anime to be more than that for me. I really enjoyed watching it overall and the characters within it. So I thought to myself, “Hey, I already am running a Fortnite account on Twitter, so why not mix these two interests together?”

Thus, I alone embarked on this mission. I ventured into DNtwt (Death Note twitter) and got familiar with the big names and usual topics. I wasn't sure how much the community would care for my idea, and to my disheartening, it seemed like there was almost nothing to talk about except for the same things over and over again. I immediately thought to myself that the IP needed to be REVITALIZED, which is only one part of all that drives me to consistently post on @DeathNotexFN and interact with the community.

Fortnite has no problem with extending their metaversal reach into the world of japanese culture and shonen to solidify their appreciation, outline the impact, and represent what the country contributes to the rest of the world. Homage is always paid to the greats in this virtual universe, and the effort the developers put into these cosmetics is nothing short of exceptional. A collaboration with such a strong and iconic name in the household of anime would expose the global audience of players to a story that is sure to pull heartstrings and pique their interest in such a prominent subculture of today's generation and the ones before.

Having the characters Light Yagami, L Lawliet, Misa Amane, and Ryuk join the once-in-a-lifetime roster of celebrities, characters, and entities in this video game has more significance than just the sake of "it would be so cool to see". It's about the IP being recognized and celebrated. And only a collaboration with Fortnite in particular can allow these characters to be celebrated in any setting, whether lighthearted with a friend group, or seen in a competitive setting as something to fear. There's individuals amongst us who see THEMSELVES in these animated figures, with the main 3 being recognized by FACES ALONE. Even the concept of a notebook that is capable of killing the name of the one who's written inside is quite familiar to many who traversed pop culture at any point in their lifetime.

The gameplay aspect doesn't only have to include virtual cosmetics however. Much like how the iconic 'Kamehameha' from Dragon Ball or the 'Deku Smash' coined by the green-haired protagonist of My Hero Academia is implemented into the game's lootpool, the Death Note notebook itself is worthy of the same treatment, and provides for an excellent opportunity to really understand the anime's biggest plot device and follow in the same steps as the self-proclaimed God of the New World.

Without this anime's presence in the game, Fortnite will never feel thorough in its dabbling of the anime world. Hundreds and thousands of people who undoubtedly enjoy anything related to their favorite show would only be left with a sour mood in dreaming of what could be, forced to see every missed opportunity for Death Note to be included in this video game.

Sign this petition reader, and join me and multiple others who are united under Death Note to get the IP even more exposure and appreciation, from an audience that is bound to pay this anime attention no matter what...on a platform that has the gaze of the entire world.
