The Issue

For five distressing years, I have been living under the shadow of harassment and stalking. This personal ordeal has not only affected my peace of mind but has put my family and business under constant scrutiny and threat. Imagine someone taking unauthorized photos of your children, your home, and your life's intimate moments and using them against you. That is my daily reality, and despite reaching out to the local authorities, no significant action has been taken against my stalker.

Stalking and harassment can have devastating impacts on a victim's mental and physical health. According to the National Center for Victims of Crime, one in six women and one in nineteen men in the United States have experienced stalking in their lifetime. The effects can range from severe anxiety to depression, and in some cases, victims are forced to relocate or quit jobs to escape their stalkers.

Current laws are insufficient to protect victims or hold perpetrators accountable. We need clearer, stronger laws that criminalize unauthorized photography and video recording of individuals without their consent, especially when used to intimidate or control. By making such actions explicitly illegal, we deter potential stalkers and provide victims with legal means to defend themselves.

Furthermore, law enforcement agencies require better training and resources to handle stalking cases effectively. Often, current resources are limited, leading to delays and a lack of action, which emboldens stalkers and leaves victims feeling helpless and vulnerable.

I urge policymakers to listen to those of us who have lived through the humiliation and fear caused by these harassment tactics. We deserve the right to live without fear of unwelcome observation or the threat of exposure.

Let's work together to create a safer environment by strengthening laws against stalking and harassment. Your signature could make the difference in pushing legislators to take this issue seriously and enact changes that protect victims and deter offenders. Please sign this petition to demand action and ensure that others do not endure the same trauma I have faced.
