The Issue

When people use rodenticide products they think it only affects the target rodents.   However this couldn't be further from the truth.  The fact is all rodenticide products result in secondary poisoning.

Affected by this secondary poisoning are predators that prey on rodents.  Poisoned predators include : raptors such as Great Horned Owls and Red-tailed Hawks, Coyotes, Foxes, Raccoons.  Secondary poisoning also affects your pet dogs and pet cats.  The products can even seep into the ground and ground water supply poisoning insects and birds that visit bird feeders.  Ultimately rodenticide creates a Toxic Food Web.

if we stay the course we risk another silent spring where our songbirds are absent and our raptors that keep rodent populations in check gone as well.  There are lethal, and non-lethal rodent control alternatives that don't involve rodenticide.

In the wake of high profile deaths of celebrated raptors such as Barry the Barred Owl in New York City the time is now to push for a full state wide ban on all rodenticide products and rodenticide usage.  California has already enacted a ban and Massachusetts is about to enact a ban.  It's time we join both states in banning a harmful product.
