The Issue

More than 40 dogs — 42 in total — were pulled from a cramped utility trailer in Marysville and are now recovering at the Everett Animal Shelter. No animal should have to live packed into a trailer like that, and the people responsible could face animal cruelty charges.

This case shouldn't quietly fade once the cameras leave. The Snohomish County Prosecuting Attorney's Office has the authority to decide what happens next, and that decision will send a message about how seriously this community takes animal welfare. Dozens of dogs suffered in conditions no living creature should endure, and the shelter staff now caring for all of them are doing the hard work of undoing that harm one animal at a time.

Holding the owners accountable isn't about punishment for its own sake — it's about making clear that packing dozens of animals into a trailer has consequences, and that Snohomish County will act when animals are found in conditions like these. It also matters for prevention: without real accountability, there's nothing stopping the same thing from happening again, to more dogs, somewhere else.

The dogs recovering in Everett right now can't advocate for themselves. Sign the petition to urge the Snohomish County Prosecuting Attorney's Office to pursue full animal cruelty charges in this case — before the moment for accountability passes.
