On 6/17/20 it was brought to the attention of several hundred Purdue Students, alums, as well as the mass of the twitter community that current student Maxwell Lawrence (hoosierdaddy23) has been creating anti-black content on TikTok and having conversations with clear anti-black sentiment. The video features him mockingly running over BLM protesters, while other screenshots show him calling black people “n******” Several reports were sent to Purdue University, however, their response was to hide behind “free speech” in that they would not hold him accountable for his harmful, racist gestures. As we all know, the inaction of protecting black lives leads to our deaths. Purdue’s response is unacceptable and our voices need to be heard! Let us show Purdue that the actions of Maxwell Lawrence, those that hold anti-black sentiment, and the remarks made earlier in the year about leading black scholars being “rare creatures” are to be taken seriously.
