President Daniels published a biased statement about Chinese students solely based on an article link here from a single source and without solid evidence. We all advocate freedom of speech, but we oppose randomly criticism of a group based on their nationality.

It is disturbing to see a school president publicly imply Chinese students are “colluding with foreign governments” without thorough investigations. The letter calls out a group by their nationality,  which is establishing stereotype for Chinese students and impelling a xenophobic atmosphere. There are even life threats in the Purdue Reddit comments, which is scary. The xenophobic sentiment targets the whole Purdue Chinese student community. Furthermore, President Daniels promotes such bias by abusing his power as a president and publishing political bias in an open letter to the entire university.

The email that President Daniels sent brought politics to our campus. We are proud to be a part of Purdue community. But Mitch Daniels uses politics to divide us, to divide "us" from "them".

As Purdue students,  we urge President Daniels to do a thorough investigation, perform his duty based on fact, rather than opinions from a newspaper, and do what he should do to maintain a peaceful working and study environment for Chinese students and scholars.
