City the Kitty started this petition to Dean of Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine Dr Willie Reed

Dear Dean Willie Reed and veterinary leaders at Purdue,

We, the undersigned, ask you to no longer perform declawing in your small animal hospital.

You are an AAHA Animal Hospital and are supposed to be providing the best of the best care in veterinary medicine. Declawing is below the standard of care.

If you want to provide state of the art care for cats at your new $100 million dollar animal hospital then stop performing and profiting from this medieval torture on cats.

You say on your website that declawing of rabbits is NOT recommended and you won't declaw rabbits at your hospital. Why are you declawing cats? Why won't you do the same for cats?

You do so many good things to help heal animals and ease their suffering, yet your long-time declawing vet, Dr Lori Corriveau, is still burning off the toe bones and claws on innocent cats. Is she being paid by Aesculight? Here's our story. Is Dr Corriveau being paid by a laser company?

Also, there is NO SUCH THING AS PAIN FREE DECLAWS so stop lying to the public in her bio on Purdue's website.

Please do the right thing, stop declawing, and help us educate the public about the awful facts about declawing and about the easy, humane options like scratching posts, nail trims, deterrents, Soft Paws, Feliway, Feliscratch, etc.

By doing so, you will be protecting the health and well-being of cats.

Declawing is the amputation of a cat's last toe bone.

Declawing is performed routinely in your American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) small animal hospital despite it having absolutely no benefit to the cat. There are always humane alternatives to this mutilating and inhumane procedure. (AAHA is strongly opposed to declawing)

Cats deserve better.

It's time for you to be strong. We will celebrate your bravery in leading the way to a better world for cats.

Thank you.
