Puppy mistakenly euthanized & thousands of others die at Baldwin Shelter
The Issue
Thousands of animal lovers have demanded answers and action to be taken after word got out about Bowie, a terrified three month old puppy who was MISTAKENLY killed for no reason other than being “shy."
Dozens of media outlets have shared this story, and a motion has been called for a “full accounting” of what led to Bowie's death, as well as a plan from the shelter to prevent similar incidents.

You would think that after this incident, a shelter that is currently under fire for their horrific abuse and dissociation with the welfare of the animals they are paid to care for would step up their game and be more thoughtful.
Unfortunately, nothing has changed. The employees responsible for Bowie's death are still employed, and hundreds of other dogs passing through the Baldwin Park Shelter are being neglected and killed. Volunteers “inside” Baldwin Park Shelter have shared that it only continues to get worse.
FURTHER, numerous rescues and private funders have stepped up to share they are heartbroken over working tirelessly to save dogs, and yet Baldwin makes it impossible to help.
The only answer we can assume is that the people who work inside do not care about dogs. The only thing they care about is their paycheck.
Puppies and dogs are sitting in this shelter, crying and shaking right now. They go for days on end without being let out, sitting in their feces, and denied the proper vet care they need. When rescues do step up, the management make it next to impossible to help.
We (the animal lovers of LA) are asking that they be immediately replaced with employees who are property vetted as animal lovers and have the best interest of these animals at heart.
This petition is to remove the current staff at Baldwin, specifically Maria Rosales, Alma Aldana, and Frank Medina, who should not only be overseeing this motion, but have yet to terminate the employees who made this irreversible “mistake."
Please sign AND also take the step to email these employees to step down.
Manager - Maria Rosales - mrosales@animalcare.lacounty.gov
Rescue Coordinator - Alma Aldana -agandara@animalcare.lacounty.gov
Frank Medina (Signed Bowie's Death Sentence and has recently been transferred to another shelter) - Fmedina@animalcare.lacounty.gov
After we receive 10k signatures, we will be presenting this to the mayor.
Sadly, Bowie is one of hundreds. Recently, we heard of another confirmed incident of a cocker spaniel puppy (no microchip) came in as a stray and was diagnosed with an emergency congenital disease that needed immediate medical attention.
A shelter volunteer pleaded for help by posting photos. While several rescue groups stood up, and medical funding was offered to save the puppy, Alma and Maria decided to STOP the dog from receiving medical attention (already on its way) and instead held the dog in the freezing shelter for another 24 hours.
Despite the fact that there was an emergency vet ready to take the dog in, they continued to deny its care.
To make matters even WORSE, a private donor stepped up to pay for the care in full.
So instead of getting the best care in LA, this puppy sat in a cold, scary shelter after being abused. He was neglected and underweight, had ear infections, was throwing up, had diarrhea, and was not eating - all while waiting for his supposed "owners."
Making matters worse, the clerk on-site returned the dog to its supposed “breeder family." Upon numerous people calling and following up for evidence that they had proof this was their dog OR that they did a well-being check that the dog was being immediately cared for by a vet, the shelter has GHOSTED, and not responded to any additional requests.
This is typical Baldwin Shelter behavior, and that is why change is needed, now.
Thank you for being part of this movement. We trust your signature will help save thousands of dogs!
