Stop Selling Puppies at Pet Stores

Stop Selling Puppies at Pet Stores
The Issue
We are Social Justice 12 students at Sir Winston Churchill and we believe that puppy mills should be banned.
What are Puppy Mills?
A Puppy Mill is "a high-volume, sub-standard dog-breeding operation, which sells purebred or mixed breed dogs, directly or indirectly to unsuspecting buyers.” In most cases, these “dog-breeding operations” are unsanitary, in terrible environmental conditions; Dogs are in cramped cages without JUST ENOUGH food and water. Some dogs develop diseases and/or skin, eye, ear or gum infections which are left untreated, which will then possibly lead to genetic defects or hereditary disorders in the new born puppies.
Puppies bred in puppy mills are then either sent off to pet stores (yes, those cute ones you see through the glass windows) and/or sold off the internet to strangers. If you pay super close attention you’ll realize that there are more than one thing wrong with this. 1. Very obviously, the fact that these animals are kept in cramped cages in terrible conditions, itself is animal abuse, but in some places, nothing is being done. 2. These puppies are being sold without being checked to see if they are healthy, meaning that there is a high chance of sickness in the puppies you buy from pet stores or online. 3. When puppies are being sold online, the puppy breeders don’t care who they’re selling it to. McDonald’s worker? Teacher? Lawyer? Mass murderer? Or maybe a single mother with 3 babies? Puppy breeders do not care who the puppies are going off to, as long as they are making money, which may put the puppies at risk of animal abuse, neglection or even ending up as strays.
Bottom line is: HELP STOP PUPPY MILLS. AVOID BUYING PETS FROM PET STORES OR ONLINE BUT INSTEAD, ADOPT ONE AT YOUR LOCAL PET SHELTER. TOGETHER, WE CAN MAKE THIS WORLD A SAFER PLACE FOR OUR FURRY FRIENDS!!
