Do not sell the city property by the History Park and new library at 900 Shreve Street

The Issue

We are residents and voters in the City of Punta Gorda who do NOT want the sale of the city property at 900 Shreve Street.

This property is unique in that it is surrounded by Fisherman's Village, History Park, Linear Park, Hounds on Henry, Community Gardens, Historic Area, and the new Punta Gorda Library.  We think it is short sighted not to recognize that selling this unique and coveted land resource precludes the certain public use for the land in the future. Who could have forecast the need for land for the new Punta Gorda Library, a gem for Punta Gorda? What about the new Community Gardens?

We would like the city to continue to be  forward thinking and look to how this land can be better used than turning it over to a developer.

What about a future community center, or pickle ball courts, performing arts center, or recreation area?

It would be a mistake to sell the land now.  There would be no turning back. It would be gone forever.

Possible future uses for this land are shared in our comments.
