We are now all aware of the importance of Trees & wilderness in our lives. An indication of a progressive city is not based solely on infrastructural developments but its commitment to the preservation and creation of clean and green spaces in the area, specially when all available data point to the incomparable significance of an already-existing green space.

Couple of days ago a sign board appeared on ghaggar river belt alongside Panchkula extension Sector 24/26 stating construction of HL bridge over river ghaggar to connect Peer Muchalla & sector 20/21 which is somehow already connected but it is just to shorten a distance of mere 4-5km. Upon reading the project details it requires almost 1/2 acre or more of forest land with hundreds of trees & fauna falling in Peer Muchalla village, Zirakpur, Punjab which forest department of Punjab is transferring to HSVP (Haryana Shehri Vikas Parishad) for the project which will result in chopping of those hundreds of trees & destroying the habitat of various species of birds/mammals also contributing loss of flood plains as the forest land is on the river bank (People living around that area knows the chaos during monsoon) & increase in already alarming air pollution. The recorded forest area of the state of Punjab is 3,084 sq km which is 6.12% of its geographical area which is 27% less than the requirement already rampant urbanization resulted in loss of green spaces around Zirakpur.

Articles by local media houses also states that residents living across the Ghaggar have a reason to cheer with the construction of this bridge but actually we are not as we are aware of the actual cost i.e. murdering hundred of trees & loss of habitat for wild species it would be built upon. After looking into all aspects i had nightmares by remembering those innocent animals i personally witnessed roaming around the river to quench their thirst.

We don't want this bridge at the cost of deforestation of Peer Muchalla Village also called nature park & urge Respected Governments of Punjab & Haryana to find an alternative way for the connectivity.

We need your support & humbly request join our cause to save Peer Muchalla forest.
