PUNISH THE DEED NOT THE BREED - STOP ANIMAL CRUELTY
The Issue
This petition is rooted in the article published by the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA). This article was released on 7th February 2023 entitled – “Abandoned. Starved. Abused.”, gearing the reader for a horror story, falls short to describe the atrocities and unimaginable evils which follow once we begin to read the story.
The article details gruesome events of extreme animal abuse and torture of five dogs, in two separate locations by one perpetrator. The article details that three of these dogs were power breed dogs, which leads us to assume that the remaining dogs were alike.
Upon reading this article, it so vividly paints the unspeakable pain, the horrific violence and monstrosities these dogs were subjected to – “the worst kind of betrayal from the human race”. As you read of the death of one of the dogs – cooked alive, slow roasted for days in a locked car – the air around you fills itself with malodors of singed hair, rotting flesh, excrement – how she, starred out the window, delirious, parched breathe – dying her last wish – a teaspoon of water.
The other dogs – also on the brink of death, confined to permanently locked cages, where water could not even reach them – having to maneuver their own urine and faeces on the odd occasion where food was “simply thrown” between gaps.
We must sing the glories of the NSPCA- for removing the surviving animals and trying to save them. Anyone with even a morsel of empathy hopes all the dogs have survived.
This article serves as a crucial turning point to the proliferated and over-publicized misinformation about power breed dogs and their temperaments. It allows us to finally glance a backstory of what these dogs are subjected to, bringing extreme awareness in the context of dog attacks and mauling’s – it gives us the clearest “behind the scenes” insights into understanding how these events can occur.
WHO IS AFFECTED?
Society as a whole is affected by the constant publicity around dog attacks and mauling's – they fail on every account to look at the story as a factual, wholistic story – in most cases the dogs are painted as the monsters – but they are simply victims of abuse to the people who own them. The dogs should not be held responsible – the people who subject these dogs to years of abuse, beatings, neglect should be held accountable.
Society fails to see the bleeding gums, tick infested, flee riddled body of the dog they call monster – they fail to realize that these dogs who were bred to love were forced and taught to fight.
WHAT IS AT STAKE?
If the perpetrator does not receive punishment in alignment with his actions, we are allowing and proliferating the abuse of power breed dogs.
The outcomes, and judgment made against the perpetrator can potentially serve to be a game changer for our country and at a global scale – as for once it gives insight as to why these dogs “act out” – it is because of the abuse and torture insighted upon them. They are, from their experiences, taught that man cannot be trusted.
WHY IS NOW THE TIME TO ACT?
We as the public need to raise awareness around the backstories of power breed dogs and their reputation – if any dog is subjected to the obscenities as mentioned in this article – how will their relationships towards humans be? This is something we often forget – power breed dogs, just like any other breed of dog- is a product of its environment.
We as the public need to ensure that the perpetrator, who has committed these crimes is punished accordingly. Through their vicious, inhumane practices, it clearly illustrates that the real monster stands outside the cage, on two legs – not four. This article in itself has proven the perpetrator to be unfit to function as part of a unified normal society.
