The Issue

Dear Alcoholic Beverages Licensing Board Member,

Gracenote Coffee's cafe in the Leather District at 108 Lincoln St., Boston, has been a cherished member of our community since 2015, winning Best of Boston more than once.

Since late June 2024, on most weekends, they have hosted events called "The Listening Room", where they play a curated selection of vintage vinyl records on an extremely well-tuned sound system, usually from 7p-11p.

Their deeply researched programming has included geography-, time period-, artist-, genre-, and music instrument- related themes; film screenings; demonstrations on instrument-making and sound with a master cymbal craftsman from Japan; and live improvisation to records by world-renowned players.

Gracenote is applying for a liquor license in order to sustain this concept, which enriches the cultural capital of our neighborhood and our city by adding to Boston's rich music performance and education history.

This is a unique and valuable nightlife experience where solo listeners and appreciative small groups can learn about music, hear what cannot be heard on streaming services, and enjoy what cannot be found elsewhere in Boston. We, the co-signed below, agree to its public need, and support their application.

Thank you for your consideration!
