Downtown Concord Public Restroom Petition:

As our neighbors in Kannapolis have proven, multiple clean and safe bathrooms add to the experience of downtown visitors. As downtown construction reaches an end, use of public restrooms is a vital need to the visitors we are encouraging to frequent Union St and surrounding area.

Intention:

 For the city to provide multiple public restrooms for the convenience of downtown patrons, and allow better conditions for local merchants, who are currently combating this need.

The proposed restrooms should be:

• Convenient for the entire downtown, and as close to the center as possible.

• The restrooms should be in a central location also for safety purposes. Perhaps as close to police station/parking decks as possible.

• We are proposing the location built into the parking deck, where downtown development offices currently are, and the vacant space next to it.

• Also proposing additional restrooms added to the single at rotary square.

• Restrooms should be ground level, as to be accessed by everyone.

• They should be policed and cleaned frequently and open during “downtown hours”, to ensure this is a space that residents and visitors feel comfortable using.

The restrooms should be completed as soon as possible in preparation for upcoming Spring/Summer weather when downtown walker etc numbers will surge.
