Public Pools of Halifax County
The Issue
Our community once had a state funded public park and swimming pool, one of the only places where families could gather, children could learn to swim, and residents could enjoy summer safely and affordably. After it was destroyed in a storm, it was never rebuilt.
Today, our town has no public swimming facilities. While private clubs exist nearby, they are not accessible to everyone. This leaves many families, especially children, with no safe place to swim, exercise, or cool off during the summer months.
Public parks and pools are not privileges. They are community necessities that support health, safety, and connection. When they disappear, the impact is felt most by those with the fewest alternatives.
As a teenager in this community, I believe a rebuilt public pool would also provide a better, safer, and more regulated place for teens to spend time during the school year and summer, instead of the limited and less safe options we have now. It would give young people a positive space to gather, stay active, and be part of the community.
We are asking for your signature to support a formal petition requesting state funding to rebuild our public park and pool so it can once again serve everyone in our community. By signing, you are not committing money or time, only your voice. Your signature helps show that our community cares, is paying attention, and expects equitable access to public resources.
Together, we can advocate for a space that belongs to all of us.
Please sign and share this petition to help bring our pools back.
