Mr Bruce Francis, a former Test cricketer who has been campaigning for the Essendon players to be exonerated, will attempt to get his FOI claim heard before Administration Appeals Tribunal (AAT) in Brisbane today.
The Hearing is via video link with the Sports Integrity Australia (SIA) defence team comprising 3 lawyers from SIA (formerly ASADA) and another 3 from the Attorney General’s (AG) Dept. AG will be lead by Senior Executive Lawyer, Justin Davidson.
It is understood that the AFL will give evidence supporting Sport Integrity Australia, the body that replaced the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority, seeking to keep the document secret.
Francis is seeking the release of the “CEO Recommendation Show Cause Pack” which was issued by the Anti-Doping Rule Violation Panel, chaired by respected lawyer Hayden Opie. At the time, Hayden Opie was also a Court for Arbitration of Sport (CAS) member and arbitrator.
Francis will not be legally represented at the AAT. His support will come from his two witnesses.
Justice for the 34 renews its call for an Independent inquiry into anti-doping with wide ranging terms of reference which allow all sporting bodies, all athletes, and all interested parties to make representations.
This is in the national interest, and it will help all athletes, not just the Essendon 34.
Please support our petition and an independent inquiry to sort this mess out.
