I care about ending World Hunger because millions of people suffer from this world-wide problem. Some people may be suffering from World Hunger, even if it's something that you would never guess. Others live in countries where poverty and hunger aren't uncommon. Many of these people may not have access to any sort of food relief programs, or agencies. Hunger may also be something that is passed down through a family. If a child lives through hunger into adulthood, and carries on to have their own family, they may not be able to get themselves, and their family, out of hunger. There is enough food in the world for everyone to be fed, but it just isn't being distributed properly. About 1/3 of all food that was produced for human consumption gets lost or wasted, worldwide, which is about 1.3 billion tons. World Hunger is something that can be solved with enough cooperation from dictators and world powers everywhere. The general public also needs to raise awareness, take action, and inspire others, including big powers, to do the same.

Did you know that about one in nine people suffer from hunger, and about one in seven die from it everyday? Many of the people that suffer from hunger are just small children, or have access to food, but simply can’t afford it. Because of World Hunger, many innocent people suffer and die, or live with the lifelong consequences. The following facts and stories will inspire you to take action and help out those who need it.

The amount of people in hunger is unfortunately increasing. According to Chris Otter, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) said that one billion people suffer from world hunger, as of 2009. This means about one in nine people around the world are affected by world hunger. Much of the time, hunger leads to malnutrition; this can cause permanent damage. Such as, whole or partial blindness, and affected brain development, all of these can have a bigger impact if affecting someone of a young age.

Some ordinary seeming people suffer from hunger, such as Christina Dreier and her family of four. She lives in Iowa, where she receives about $172 in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits per month. Christina Aguilera is someone who is helping people suffering from hunger, like Christina Dreier. According to Karen Mayer Robinson and the World Food Programme website, Aguilera has helped raise over $200 million for only two different organizations. She has helped to raise over $66 million on the Hope for Haiti Now telethon, which was a widely televised charity fundraising event. Aguilera also helped to raise over $148 million for the World Food Programme, or WFP. The WFP helps over 45 countries, including Guatemala, Rwanda, and Haiti.

People should care about this issue because millions die every year from hunger and helping to stop it comes in many shapes and forms. Many children and elderly around the world suffer from hunger, or even die from it. Some of these people can’t help what’s coming for them, because they were born into poverty and hunger. They may never have the opportunity to come out of this poverty and/or hunger because of living in a developing country, or not having any help from people who can provide it. Depending upon how committed you are, there are different ways that you can help. A simple way is to donate spare change to any food relief agencies or organizations, such as Feed My Starving Children (FMSC), WFP, or any Hope for Haiti Now telethon related program. Donating non-perishable food items to a local food shelf is another easy option. Feed My Starving Children is a non-profit organization that sends out nutritious food to people that need it. Even though this organization is Minnesota based, they help people globally. It’s also volunteer run which means you could sign up and visit during your weekend or free time. Each session is one and a half hours long and also includes a mini shop. All profits made go to the creators of the product, which are mostly struggling women on the African continent. Visit FMSC, or donate spare change to help out with a good cause.

These stories and facts showed how many people a contribution to end World Hunger would help. Because of you, one less person could be suffering from hunger. Help make one in nine go down by simply donating some spare change, or volunteering a small portion of your time, and help make a difference in the the world.
