Dear Petition Supporters,
Happy New Year! We hope you enjoyed the holidays with your loved ones. As promised, we’re updating you on the status of a potential U.S. Supreme Court case involving ‘exclusive representation’ by unions in public-sector employment.
The case, Goldstein v. Professional Staff Congress (PSC), involves six full-time professors at the City University of New York (CUNY) who filed a lawsuit challenging New York’s Taylor Law, alleging it violated their First Amendment rights to free speech and association.
The professors argued that the law unfairly compelled them to be part of a bargaining unit represented exclusively by the Professional Staff Congress (PSC), despite their vehement disagreement with PSC's political views, specifically on issues related to Israel and Palestine.
This case is extremely important to NYS Parole Officers because it could determine whether they could break away from their current union, the Public Employees Federation (PEF). To listen to the full update, click here.
In solidarity,
