Fellow Parole Officers,

You are not going to believe this!

The Less Is More bill was written by convicted murderer Derek Singletary, according to his wife Emily NaPier Singletary at the signing ceremony.

That’s right — a convicted murderer and gang member wrote his own get-out-of-jail-free card, Brian Benjamin helped him, Democrats voted for it, and as one of her first acts as governor, Kathy Hochul signed it into law.

Derek Singletary is co-founder and co-executive director of Unchained. The group, based in Syracuse, co-authored the Less is More Act and co-led the statewide campaign to pass and enact it. Singletary is currently incarcerated in state prison and leads the organization from behind bars.

To make matters worse, the Public Employees Federation (PEF) failed to share this information with Parole Officers and the media.

PEF is supposed to represent Parole Officers but did little to nothing to repeal "Less is More."  In fact, PEF never sought to repeal this horrible piece of legislation. Instead, PEF only seeks to amend it.

Unlike PEF, the New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association (NYSCOPBA) opposes criminal justice reforms and is aggressively fighting for its members to repeal the HALT Act.

That is one of the many reasons why we are advocating for Parole Officers to join NYSCOPBA.

If you agree that Parole Officers should be represented by NYSCOPBA, please opt out by using the link below.
