It’s very disheartening to know that PEF President Wayne Spence supported some parole reform. In a Queens Daily Eagle article dated January 31, 2020, Spence said some reform is needed, but he suggested a more gradual approach. “You need a scalpel to do something like this, but they’re coming at it with a machete.”
Now, Spence is trying to portray himself as the biggest opponent of “Less is More” parole reform. PEF endorsed politicians like Brian Benjamin and Kathy Hochul have tied our hands and made our jobs more difficult.
Fortunately, in response to PEF’s support of anti-law enforcement politicians, more and more Parole Officers are requesting to stop paying union dues and opting out thanks to the United States Supreme Court’s ruling in Janus v. AFSCME.
In 2018, the U.S. Supreme Court gave New York public employees the right to choose whether to pay union dues.
