Unfortunately, depression treatments don't always work. As many as two-thirds of people with depression aren't helped by the first antidepressant they try. Up to a third don't respond to several attempts at treatment.

Madi’s Law is a reasonable request. We’re asking for safer practices. The caregiver system we’re requesting already exists in Canada’s health care system. Patients cannot leave surgeries or many medical procedures without a caregiver to take them home and care for them. Why is it okay to prescribe powerful, mind-altering drugs without the safety net of someone to watch over the patient until it’s deemed safe for them to take it? There’s no blood test that say’s a patient needs a psychotropic drug. As Canadians, we should be outraged that such practices are allowed to continue. It’s unsafe and wrong! We’re not asking that the drugs be banned but simply administered more responsibly.

A pill can be just as dangerous as a loaded gun. We need the Canadian government to step up and improve the safety of psychotropic drugs.
