I received an email from Shanzea at Ya’ara Saks office; Below is from the email
“Madi’s law is intended to be a safety waiver to improve a parent/loved ones’s awareness that a family member is being prescribed a psychotropic drug. Health is a shared jurisdiction between the federal government and PTs, and this falls under PTs, particularly given practice of medicine.
I would recommend reaching out to the provincial Health Minister, Sylvia Jones, if you would like more information on this.”
My response was ; I was told that Health Canada, through the Food and Drugs Act, regulates the safety, efficacy, and quality of all pharmaceutical drugs for use by humans in Canada before and after the products enter the Canadian marketplace. This is Federal and Madi's Law is about psychotropic drug safety. Emphasis on the words "drug safety ".
There’s discussion over whether Madi’s Law is PTs (Province and Territories) jurisdiction or Federal (Canada wide).
I forwarded Shanzae’s email to Sylvia Jones . Hopefully we get some answers. I feel Madi’s Law is more about drug safety and I would love to see it passed Canada wide. In any event, no one is taking ownership or doing anything to improve the safety of prescribing powerful, mind altering drugs. Heaven forbid they would work together? I will keep everyone posted. At least there’s some talk about Madi’s Law. I guess we’ll call that progress.
Please continue to support Madi’s Law…we’re trying to save lives. We just need the government of Canada to join us!
