Therapists are being targeted by scams through their Psychology Today profiles. These scams threaten them financially and physically. Callers claim to be the police officers or a Sheriff following up on failure to appear for a subpoena and that an immediate bail payment is required to avoid arrest. While this scam has been going on for a while, a new and even more frightening twist is occurring where the caller threatens the therapists family, including physical or sexual assault and death on specific, identified family members including the therapists children.

Psychology Today has in their system all emails of therapists using their service. We need Psychology Today to send warning emails to all subscribers alerting them to this scam. Additionally, we need Psychology Today to cooperate with local investigations by providing any phone information that may help find the perpetrators. Psychology Today could set up a separate contact number or email for reports of the date, time and number used in the scam calls to collect info that will assist investigators.
