Keep Dixon Middle School in Dixon Neighborhood
The Issue
The Provo District School Board will decide at the end of April whether this year’s bond will include a new Dixon Middle School either rebuilt on its current site or at a new location (Footprinter Park site proposed at 890 S 1100 W). We believe moving to the proposed site would be a mistake.
We believe the Board should choose to keep in Dixon Middle School in Dixon Neighborhood. Some crucial reasons:
-It serves as a landmark historic community anchor, both for education & events, & for attracting potential homeowners to invest in the neighborhood.
-It is a more dense and accessible location for families because of its infrastructure & grid system. WalkScore of Dixon: 68; proposed site: 7
-It has close proximity to Timpanogos & Franklin elementary schools for siblings to help family, which is especially important in our low income area
-150,000 sq feet (130,000 sq new construction + 20,000 sq of renovated 1931 building) will be built at either location, housing ≈1,200 students.
