Caregivers who bring cancer patients to Ontario hospitals have to wait in their cars for hours on end while their loved ones receive chemo treatment or attend appointments with their specialist  because of COVID visitor rules, thereby exposing them to severe weather conditions. Many of these caregivers are senior citizens. The Ontario Government can change these rules to permit municipalities to allow municipal facilities near hospitals to be used as warming centers for caregivers from out of area who have nowhere else to shelter. Safety protocols can be put in place to keep these centers COVID rules compliant. Caregivers are often the sole support for cancer patients and need to be protected as well. I have raised this concern with hospital health officials and provincial politicians but it seems to have fallen on deaf ears. It is an unacceptable, abusive and preventable situation that needs urgent attention before a caregiver suffers a health crisis of their own in a hospital parking lot.
