House Bill 477 is providing funding for full day kindergarten. It also requires schools to provide a half day kindergarten option. The option being offered at many schools is to pull your child out at 11:30 from a full day class. This half day option is also missing the specialty classes STEM, PE, computer and music/art. We can coexist with full day kindergarten. We believe there is room for both and both are good options in different situations. What we want is a traditional full curriculum half day class option for our kindergarteners. Not only for the kindergarteners this year but in the years to come. If we don’t have this conversation now, we’re not sure that even this poor option will be offered in the future.
