Thank you for supporting SB 381 - Wahab. This bill will provide unrestricted access to original birth certificates to California born adult adoptees.

  1. Phone calls to offices work! We visited many offices yesterday and they said they had a flood of phone calls in favor of SB 381 with no calls against. We have no formal opposition to the bill.
  2. The bill made it through phase one of the Senate Appropriations (the money committee) and now is in phase 2 which is called the Suspense file. https://sapro.senate.ca.gov/FAQs This will be voted on Thursday, January 22nd. Because our bill is not costly, it will most likely pass easily.
  3. The next step is huge. It will be voted on by the entire Senate on the floor of the Capital. This will either take place on Monday, Jan. 26th at 2:00 p.m.(doubtful but possible) or Thursday, January 29th at 9:00 a.m. (most likely). There are 40 state Senators. We need 21 votes for it to pass. These will be live streamed. https://www.senate.ca.gov/calendar
  4. Amazing news!!!!! Senator Wahab is our author and so far we have 12 additional Senators that are wanting to coauthor! We are extremely excited about this show of support! Many others are favorable and will most likely vote yes.
  5. How you can help!!!!! Find your Senator, call and/or write them. You can find their information here. https://findyourrep.legislature.ca.gov/ You can call anytime. If you don't want to talk with anyone, leave a message after hours. Probably best to call the Capitol office phone numbers. We will do the same for the Assembly if it passes the Senate.
  6. We are attempting to collect a database. If you would like, please email me your name and who your representatives are. PKSTJohns@aol.com
  7. Feel free to give Senator Wahab's office a call and thank her. (916) 651-4410. Our California Alliance for Adoptee Rights team has been working with her and her team. She is truly amazing to watch behind the scenes. She has tremendous charisma, knowledge, and creates bonds with her fellow legislators. She is an adoptee (New York) and gets it! She is one of us. She is a hero!!!!!
  8. A special shout out to Wendy Turk who has testified three times and works tirelessly on this issue.
  9. Another shoutout to Susan Leksander who testified in both the Senate Judiciary and Health Committees. Brilliant and insightful!
  10. A huge shout out to all who came to Sacramento. It made a big difference. Courageous  human beings of all ages sharing their thoughts and feelings! Empowering!!!

  12. We have a long way to go, but have come so far!!!! This petition is working! We show it to the offices, regularly print up copies for the Governor's office and use it as a portal of communication. Please share the link. We will keep it going until we have a signed bill. https://c.org/nrymfFfrhq
