Provide secure bins in Aberystwyth
The Issue
Aberystwyth, a picturesque coastal town in Ceredigion, deserves streets that reflect its natural beauty and attractiveness for both residents and tourists.
However, the absence of secure bins has led to an unsightly problem: bin bags strown across streets that are frequently torn open by animals/the elements leaving litter strewn across our lovely town.
This creates a poor reflection on Aberystwyth for visitors but also undermines the community's effort towards maintaining a clean and welcoming environment such as AberOutdoors.
The current situation is detrimental to our image and can easily be rectified.
By providing residents with appropriate waste management, for example seagull proof bags, wheelie bins, boxes, or at the very least, bins designed for food waste.This will allow us to mitigate the issues created from improper disposal of waste.
These disposal methods will provide a secure and clean way to handle waste, preventing wildlife from accessing rubbish that can be a hazard and stopping litter from blowing across the streets.
These seagull proof bags are currently £4 each but have also shown to be unreliable at times but teaching the proper usage via leaflets may be very helpful to prevent overflow of rubbish from the bags.
Moreover, equipping homes with these secure bins aligns with the broader environmental goals of supporting a circular economy. Recycling is essential for reducing waste, conserving natural resources, and fostering environmental sustainability.
By ensuring that residents have an easy way to separate and dispose of recyclables, the council can significantly contribute to the region’s sustainability targets.
