Provide safe walking and cycling access to the new Greenway in Navan
The Issue
The new Greenway in Navan is amazing! The problem is, the only way to get there is to drive!
Every week, we meet people who are unable to reach the new Boyne Valley to Lakelands Greenway. They resort to driving or abandon their plans entirely.
We, the residents of Navan are calling for a safe route for pedestrians and cyclists between our town centre and this natural treasure.
The lack of access is not just annoying; it's a barrier preventing many from enjoying one of our region's most beautiful resources. This issue affects both locals and tourists alike - limiting our options for outdoor activities and impacting local tourism.
According to Ireland's National Transport Authority (NTA), cycling trips have increased by 52% since 2011 across the country. This data underscores the need for better cycling infrastructure in places like Navan where such facilities can significantly improve quality of life.
We urge our local authorities in County Meath to acknowledge this pressing need for connectivity between Navan town centre and the Boyne Valley to Lakelands Greenway.
By creating safe routes, we can promote healthier lifestyles, encourage eco-friendly transportation methods, boost local tourism, and ensure that everyone has access to enjoy our natural surroundings.
