Provide safe & legal space for dogs at Unthank Park

Provide safe & legal space for dogs at Unthank Park
The Issue
The residents around Unthank Park need a safe and legal option to run their four-legged friends - our dogs. The park's greatest utilization is from the residents who walk and run their dogs in the park each day. While it is currently purposed as a baseball field, it can also accommodate a suitable dog park or off-leash area. Having a dedicated space for our pets provides numerous benefits including:
- a place for fostering community and stewardship of the park
- keeping pet interactions separate from children's play areas
- an area safer from unfenced edges of the park where moving vehicles pose a threat
If the status quo remains, the park may lose its appeal and burden park staff with constant monitoring. Please sign this petition to endorse the repurposing of Unthank Park to accommodate dogs within its boundaries. The petition will go directly to the Portland Park Bureau as a gesture of support. If you don't wish sign, you can also call Portland Parks & Rec at 503-823-2525 to share your thoughts. Thanks for considering and let's make our park a place for people, pets, and all of Portland!
